Brescia. Hours of great apprehension for the residents of Via Montello on the afternoon of Tuesday 23 July. A woman locked herself in her flat on the third floor and threatened to throw herself out of the window.
The 112 was alerted by several calls and immediately mobilised the fire brigade and state police. The street was closed off and the fire brigade inflated a large mattress under the building, while an officer spoke words of comfort to the woman and tried to convince her to desist.
In the meantime, a second team reached the flat door and broke it down: the policemen broke in and managed to reach the woman on the ledge. The police officers broke in and managed to reach the woman on the ledge. They belted her by the shoulders and secured her, after which she was handed over to the medical teams who arrived on the scene.
