Brescia. Rebecca Cheptegei, the Ugandan marathon runner who participated in the Paris 2024 Olympics, died of burns suffered after being attacked by her boyfriend. The man, Kenyan Dickson Ndiema Marangach, set the 33-year-old woman on fire on Sunday. The death of the athlete, who had competed in the Paris 2024 Olympics, was announced by the Ugandan Olympic Committee, Afp news agency reports.
‘We have learnt of the sad death of our Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei following a violent attack by her boyfriend. May her soul rest in peace and we strongly condemn violence against women,’ Donald Rukare said on X, deploring “a cowardly and senseless act that has led to the loss of a great athlete”.
